What if I told you that AI-generated ad hooks are now outperforming our traditional video ads?

I'm not talking about a small improvement - I'm talking about AI-created video hooks that are stopping people in their tracks & getting them to actually watch the rest of the ad.

And the best part? You don't need a film crew, a big budget, or even a fancy studio to create them. All you need is the right process, the right prompts & about $50 in AI credits.

I just filmed an entire behind-the-scenes video where I walked through my complete creative process for creating AI ad hooks - from brainstorming with ChatGPT all the way to rendering final versions inside Google Veo 3.

And today, I'm breaking down the key strategies & takeaways so you can use this same process in YOUR business.

As a Reminder, Our Goal with this Newsletter is to Give You the Highest Level of Value Possible. That's my Promise to you & I intend to Over-Deliver!

Alright, let's Dive In...

Why AI Ad Hooks Are a Game-Changer

Here's what most people don't realize about AI-generated video ads right now - we are in a massive window of opportunity.

The technology has reached the point where you can create cinematic-quality 8-second video hooks that look like they were pulled straight from a movie scene - and it costs a fraction of what traditional video production would run you.

Think about it. To film a scene where I'm dressed as a superhero jumping off a rooftop or a secret agent rescuing cash from a shredder machine - that would cost thousands of dollars in production, props, location fees & editing.

With AI? I'm creating these for about $50 in credits & an hour of my time. And I can produce 5+ different hook variations in a single session.

But the BIGGEST reason this matters isn't the cost savings - it's the performance. We're actively seeing that our AI ad hooks are outperforming our traditional ad hooks. That means better attention, more engagement & ultimately more people watching the full ad and taking action.

My 5-Step AI Ad Hook Creation Process

After creating dozens of these AI ad hooks, I've dialed in a repeatable process that works every single time. Here's exactly how I do it:

Step 1: Create Your AI Character Description

Before you can put yourself into an AI-generated video, the AI needs to know what you look like. Here's how I do it:

I upload a simple headshot to ChatGPT & ask it to create a detailed description of me that I can use inside of a video generation tool like Google Veo 3. This includes details about facial features, hair, glasses, expression - everything the AI needs to recreate a version of you.

The key here is to ask ChatGPT to exclude background details & specific clothing from the description - you want a clean, reusable character description that you can drop into any prompt & pair with whatever outfit or costume the scene calls for.

This is your reusable AI identity - create it once & use it for every single hook you make.

Step 2: Brainstorm Hook Ideas with ChatGPT

This is where the magic really starts to happen. Instead of sitting in front of a blank page trying to come up with creative hook concepts, I use ChatGPT as a brainstorming partner.

Here's what I do - I feed ChatGPT the context of the ad. I'll say something like: "I'm creating a video ad to promote our Video Marketing Flywheel strategy. I need you to help me brainstorm different AI video-generated 8-second ad hooks." Then I include the full script of the ad itself so it understands the context.

From there, ChatGPT gives me a variety of creative concepts. In my latest session, it came up with ideas like:

  • The Marketing Roller Coaster - A stressed business owner strapped into a chaotic roller coaster labeled with words like "leads," "calls," & "burnout"

  • The AI Clone Machine - Two versions of me, one stressed at a desk & one calmly creating perfect ads with AI

  • The Superhero vs. Outdated Marketing Monster - Me in a superhero suit battling a goofy monster that represents old marketing tactics

  • The Secret Agent Budget Rescue - Me as a 007-style agent rescuing cash from a shredder machine labeled "Outdated Marketing"

  • The Marketing Time Traveler - Hopping into a time machine to visit the future where AI runs everything flawlessly

One of my favorite techniques is using ChatGPT's audio feature to brainstorm back & forth out loud. It's like having a creative director in your pocket that you can riff with in real time. I'll throw out a rough idea, ChatGPT will build on it, I'll refine it - and within minutes we've got a killer concept.

Step 3: Turn Ideas into AI Prompts

Now here's where most people go wrong - and this is the #1 mistake I see people make with AI video generation.

They take the prompt that ChatGPT gives them, paste it directly into the video generation tool & expect it to be perfect on the first try. It almost never is.

The prompt ChatGPT gives you is a starting point, not the final product. You need to add a few critical elements:

  1. Your character description (the reusable one you created in Step 1)

  2. Any specific clothing or costume descriptions (like a superhero suit or secret agent outfit)

  3. Instructions to not include subtitles or captions in the video

  4. A note to make the video high quality as if it were a scene from a movie

  5. The exact dialogue you want the character to say

  6. Camera direction details like "dramatically pan around" or "zoom into"

These extra prompt pieces are what take you from a mediocre AI output to something that actually looks professional & polished.

Step 4: The Iterative Rendering Method

This is the step that separates people who get amazing AI ad hooks from people who give up & say "AI video doesn't work."

Here's my exact rendering workflow:

Round 1 - Render 2 versions. This is your test round. You're not looking for perfection here - you're looking to see what the prompt is picking up & what it's missing. By seeing two versions, you can identify the commonalities & figure out what needs to change.

Round 2 - Adjust the prompt & render 2 more. Based on what you saw in Round 1, tweak the prompt. Maybe the pacing was off, the dialogue didn't land right, or the visuals weren't quite what you envisioned. Make those changes & generate two more.

Round 3 - Render 4 final versions. Once you're in the ballpark & the prompt is dialed in, render four versions so you can pick the absolute best one. Sometimes you might even do another round of four to get the perfect final version.

In general, I've found that it takes about 6-12 variations to land on the final version you're happy with. That sounds like a lot, but when each render takes just a few minutes, the entire process takes about an hour from start to finish.

Step 5: Mix & Match Your Best Takes

Here's a pro tip that most people overlook - you don't have to use just one render as your final ad hook.

Sometimes Version A has an amazing opening shot but the ending falls flat. And Version B has a weak opening but the perfect closing moment. The solution? Combine them. Tell your editor to take the opening from Version A & cut to the closing from Version B.

Since the AI is generating from the same prompt, the visual style is usually consistent enough that you can splice different versions together seamlessly.

The AI Playbook for Video Teams That Can't Slow Down

Wistia's new AI Video Marketing Trends report shows how marketers are using AI to handle the unglamorous work, so creative energy stays where it matters.

Marketing leaders across industries are using AI to reach broader audiences, move faster, and extend the shelf life of every video they make. The report breaks down how AI is improving speed and output quality, helping teams keep up with demand and raise the bar while they're at it.

Because when every channel needs video, you need leverage, not another meeting that could've been an email. AI clears the runway so ideas actually take off.

See how top teams are using AI to iterate, refine, and ship while keeping a human grip on taste, voice, and strategy.

The Hook Concepts That Worked Best

Out of all the hooks I created in this session, here are the ones that really stood out:

The Superhero Hook - "You don't have to be a superhero to run great ads - you just need to know how to use AI to create a Video Marketing Flywheel." This one was INCREDIBLE. The cinematic quality of me in a superhero suit jumping off a rooftop & delivering that line directly to camera was exactly the kind of scroll-stopping moment you need in the first 8 seconds of an ad.

The Outdated Marketing Monster Hook - "Feel like you're battling outdated marketing monsters? It's time to become a marketing superhero." This one had me in a superhero costume facing off against a cartoonish monster - it's funny, it's attention-grabbing & it immediately frames the problem.

The Secret Agent Hook - "Stop wasting your ad budget on outdated marketing. Use the Video Marketing Flywheel instead." A James Bond-style scene where I'm rescuing cash from a shredder machine. The spy music crescendoing as I hit the stop button - chef's kiss.

The Time Traveler Hook - "Ready to leave outdated marketing behind? Let's travel to the future with AI-powered video ads." A retro-futuristic time machine concept that worked surprisingly well.

Each of these hooks would have cost thousands of dollars to produce traditionally. With AI, the total cost for ALL of them was about $50 in rendering credits.

The Tools You Need to Get Started

Here's exactly what you need to start creating your own AI ad hooks:

ChatGPT - For brainstorming hook ideas, creating character descriptions & generating initial prompts. The audio feature is especially great for back-and-forth creative brainstorming.

Google Veo 3 (via Google Flow) - This is the AI video generation tool I use. They have a Pro account for $20/month that gives you enough credits to get started, or an Ultra plan at $250/month for heavier usage. Either way, you can always add more credits as you need them.

A Simple Headshot - Nothing fancy required. Just a clear photo of yourself that ChatGPT can use to generate your AI character description.

That's it. Three things & you can start creating AI ad hooks today.
