One of my clients was already hitting $100K months with his ads. Things were going well - until Facebook completely shut down his ad account in February.

No ads. No traffic. No pipeline.

So what did he do? He sent his entire sales team into his Facebook group - a community of less than 500 people.

That month, they collected $178,000 from the group alone. More than any month he had ever done with ads.

That's the power of a warmed-up community doing the selling for you.

I recently sat down with Cierra Lueck on the Marketing Minds Podcast to break down her entire Facebook Group strategy - and let me tell you, this episode is absolutely packed with actionable value you can implement right away.

Cierra has worked with over 1,200 customers, 350+ private clients, with 75+ specifically focused on Facebook groups - and has helped her clients generate an additional 5-6 figures in monthly revenue, 3,000% increases in engagement, and 10X the amount of optins from their group posts organically.

The "Bump, Set, Spike" 3-Post Framework

This is the core strategy Cierra shared that I think every business owner with a Facebook group needs to hear.

Most people either post random content in their group with no strategy - or they go completely silent for weeks at a time. Both are killing your results.

Cierra's framework is simple: 3 posts per week, each with a very specific purpose. She calls it "Bump, Set, Spike" - and here's how it works:

Post #1 - The Viral Question (The Bump)

This is the easiest post you'll ever create & its entire purpose is to generate massive engagement fast.

The key? Make it stupid easy to answer. We're talking binary choices & lighthearted, fun topics that people can respond to in seconds.

Think: "Coffee or Tea - pick one and defend your choice" or "Who sleeps with both the fan AND the AC on? I need answers."

One viral question Cierra referenced got over 3 million comments. Another example - her book editor posted a polarizing question about salmon on his personal Facebook profile & got 300 comments in under 24 hours when he was normally getting 5-10.

Why does this matter for your business? Because when someone engages with your viral question post, the Facebook algorithm is now primed to show them your NEXT post - which is where the real magic happens.

Here's the thing most people get wrong - they ask questions that require too much thought. "What's your 5-year business plan?" is NOT going to get engagement. Nobody is going to sit down and write a paragraph while scrolling Facebook. But "Chocolate or Vanilla for the rest of your life - choose wisely" gets people commenting instantly.

Cierra also shared a pro tip here: bonus points if you can tie the viral question to whatever your topic of the week is. Because if the algorithm tags that topic along with your name when that person engages, your next business-related post on that same topic is even MORE likely to be shown to them.

Post #2 - The Quick Win (The Set)

This is the most important post most people skip - and it's where you build the trust you need to make sales.

The Quick Win post gives your audience a micro-victory. Something they can do RIGHT NOW & get an immediate result from. Not your entire course. Not a 47-step framework. Just one thing that makes them go "Wow, that actually worked!"

Cierra shared a brilliant example from when she ran fitness boot camps. She'd tell people: "Go to your pantry, pull out something with an ingredients list, find an ingredient with a weird name you've never heard of, then Google that word plus 'symptoms' and see what comes up."

People would do it & have these mind-blowing "aha" moments. They felt like detectives. They felt smart. And most importantly - they got a result.

Here's why this matters so much: The Quick Win post builds THREE layers of trust.

First, it builds trust in YOU - "Hey, what Aleric says actually works."

Second, it builds trust in your FRAMEWORKS - "This method is legit."

And third - this is the one most people miss - it builds trust in THEMSELVES that they'll actually follow through and see results. That self-trust is what ultimately drives the sale.

Post #3 - The Lead Magnet CTA (The Spike)

This is your two-step post. Something like: "If I created a guide on how to [get specific result], would you want that? Drop a comment below!"

You're putting feelers out to your audience every single week to see what they actually want. And if they don't want it? You don't waste time creating it. If they do want it? You've just generated a list of warm leads AND validated your next offer or lead magnet.

Cierra recommends testing a new one every single week. You're essentially getting real-time market research from the people who matter most - your actual audience.

The beauty of this entire framework is that Post #1 primes the algorithm, Post #2 builds deep trust, and Post #3 converts that trust into leads & sales. Bump, Set, Spike.

Why Most "Active" Groups Make ZERO Money

Here's something Cierra said that really stuck with me: there are Facebook groups with 100,000 to even 1.2 million members that are technically "active" - but make almost no money.

The reason? The admin got "lost in the sauce."

If you're not the one producing the culture of your group & deciding what that culture looks like, the group will create its own culture - and it's usually not the one you want.

You need to be leading the charge on what kind of content gets posted, how people are engaging, and what conversations are happening. Otherwise you end up with a big group that has zero connection to your offers.

One important tactical note Cierra shared: unless you have admin working your group 24/7, do NOT turn on the post approval gate. Here's why - when someone posts something, they go back and check on it constantly throughout the day. If their post is sitting in an approval queue, they're not coming back to engage. And when they're not engaging, your group engagement dies.

It's actually easier to just delete & block bad actors than it is to try to rebuild engagement you killed by gatekeeping posts.

The Thread-Style Post Strategy

I've been seeing more and more of these thread-style posts on Facebook - where someone drops a juicy hook and then continues the content in the comments below. I asked Sierra about her take on these & her insights were gold.

She's actually been using these & studying them for years. The key to making them work comes down to a few things:

First, the hook has to open a massive loop. Something so juicy people HAVE to click into the comments to close it. A ridiculous statement, a super easy-sounding promise, or something that creates genuine curiosity.

Second - and this is where most people mess up - you need CTAs in EVERY thread comment, not just the last one. Why? Because you can't control how people read. Some will read top to bottom. Some will skip to the end. Some will bail after the second comment. By placing engagement prompts & lead magnet CTAs throughout the thread, you're capturing attention no matter where someone drops off.

Third, get people commenting. The algorithm is checking how much time people spend on your content, whether it's getting comments, whether those comments are sparking conversations, and whether the post is getting shares or saves. Just likes alone won't cut it - you need actual engagement.

Thread posts work especially well in public Facebook groups where the content can be shared virally. And they're a great format for delivering Quick Win content with your CTAs woven in naturally.

How to Revive a "Dead" Facebook Group

If you have a Facebook group that's been collecting dust, here's Cierra's two-step revival strategy:

Step 1: Post a Viral Question - Today.

Seriously, just go do it right now. Pick something that's a binary choice, lighthearted, fun, and takes zero effort to answer. "Coffee or tea?" "Beach vacation or mountain getaway?" Make it simple.

This gets sent to the majority of people in your group & because Facebook and Meta themselves use viral questions on a regular basis, the platform is already predisposed to push this type of content. Pro tip - use those bright colored text backgrounds that Facebook offers. It's a platform-native tool and content using those tends to get more engagement.

Step 2: Create a Hype Event.

Put together some kind of exciting event - even if it's just 30 minutes or an hour. Maybe it's a live Q&A, a challenge, or a revival of something you used to do that people loved. The goal is to give people a reason to come back & pay attention again.

Then start bringing in new members. That fresh energy of new people discovering your group for the first time is contagious - it re-energizes the existing members & starts to rebuild momentum.

Public vs. Private - Which Should You Choose?

This is a decision you want to think through carefully because once you go private, you can never go back to public. Facebook changed that policy - it used to be reversible, but not anymore.

Public Groups have the advantage of virality. Content can be shared outside the group, Facebook can show it to people who aren't members yet, and it can attract organic growth. Cierra shared an example of a tree services company with a public group where every reel they posted had the potential to go viral & attract new members organically.

Private Groups give you the ability to have join questions on the way in - which is a goldmine for lead generation. Cierra's favorite join question isn't just offering a single lead magnet (because not everyone will need that specific thing). Instead, she asks something like: "Would you like to receive updates on events, freebies, or other gifts we're giving in the group?" About 75% of people say yes & drop their email.

She also recommends using a join question to understand WHERE people found your group (for attribution) and WHAT they need help with most (so you know which offer to present them).

For managing all of this data at scale, Cierra recommends Group Track CRM - a tool that overlays on top of Facebook & essentially turns your social media into a CRM. It captures join question data automatically (the same way a VA would - no scraping) and now works with Instagram too.

The Future of Facebook Groups & AI

With 4.1 billion monthly active users, Facebook isn't going anywhere. And neither are Facebook communities. Meta invested $3 million into a Super Bowl ad specifically promoting Facebook communities - and they continue to promote groups with billboard-style ads in major cities.

Cierra also shared that Facebook is actively building AI tools specifically for groups - including AI that will automatically post viral questions for you and AI that will auto-respond as admin. When a platform is actively investing in AI features for groups, that tells you everything you need to know about where they see the future.

The key takeaway on AI & content? Be careful using AI to create ALL of your content - especially if you're not already a strong content creator. AI will amplify your skills, but it won't replace the need for authentic human connection. Video is still one of the best ways to nurture people fast & build that real trust - and raw, real video of yourself still outperforms AI-generated video when it comes to building genuine connection.
