How to Run Branded Google Search Ads
If you're running any online advertising campaigns, there's a good chance people are searching for your brand name on Google. We’ve all done it!
But are those searches actually turning into sales?
In this guide, I'm going to show you how to convert brand searches into paying customers using Google Ads branded search campaigns.
First off, what exactly is a branded search campaign?
It's a Google search campaign that targets keywords specific to your company's brand - things like your business name, product names, or other terms closely associated with your brand.
The goal is to make sure you show up at the very top of search results whenever someone is looking for your company online.
Branded search campaigns serve two key purposes:
Capturing high-intent traffic to drive conversions
Preventing competitors from diverting traffic by bidding on your brand keywords
Think about it - if someone is specifically searching for your brand name, they are likely already familiar with your company and potentially ready to buy.
By showing up prominently, you can guide them to take that final step. Plus, competitors may try to steal your thunder by bidding on your branded terms.
But if you're bidding on them yourself, you can keep that traffic focused on your business.
So how do you set up a branded campaign the right way?
Here are the key steps to a Branded Google Search Ad Campaign:
Create a new Google Ads campaign focused on leads or sales, whatever makes sense for your goals.
Choose the Search campaign type.
Set your keyword match types. Create one ad group using exact match (put keywords in brackets) for your core brand terms.
Then set up a second ad group with phrase match (quotation marks) for keywords closely related to your brand.
Add 2-3 text ads per ad group that highlight your brand, products, and unique selling points. Including your Brand Name in the ad will help to maximize clicks when people search for your brand.
Set your daily budget. $20/day is often a good starting point, but base it on your overall ad spend and brand keyword search volume. Your actual daily spend will depend on search volume and cost per click.
Implement negative keywords! Add terms like competitor names and misspellings of your brand that you want to exclude. Apply to the phrase match ad group.

Launch your Branded Search Ads!
Once your branded campaign is up and running, there are some key best practices to follow for optimal results:
Incorporate strong ad copy variations and aim for a "good" or higher Ad Strength rating from Google
Send traffic to the most relevant, conversion-focused pages on your site (split test these to see what works best)
Maximize ad real estate by filling out all headline and description fields
Target all relevant keyword variations, including any brand nicknames, taglines or notable people from your company
Refine your keyword targeting over time by adding more negative keywords to exclude irrelevant searches
Regularly monitor key metrics like cost per click (aim to be in line with your industry), click-through rate (shoot for 5%+), and conversion rate
Running these types of Branded Search Campaigns will help you capitalize on the interest you’re already creating for your company through your existing ads & marketing — ensuring you capture those leads & sales!
