Why I Decided to Write a Book (& Why You Should Too)
Here's the thing - there are a LOT of books & content out there about how to go viral with videos, how to get as many eyeballs on your content as possible.
But what I saw was a massive gap in the market.
Nobody was really talking about how to convert viewers into clients.
That's where the idea for Video Authority was born - a book that distills the principles I've learned helping thousands of clients generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue using video ads & organic video strategies.
But here's what I didn't expect...
The process of writing the book was just as valuable as the book itself.
You see, even though I've been teaching these strategies for years to our clients, the act of sitting down & writing them into a book forced me to formalize clearer frameworks that can truly withstand the test of time.
It pushed me to think about how to capture my essence as an expert in a way that anyone who picks up the book can understand & implement.
And I think that's one of the BIGGEST reasons every entrepreneur should consider writing a book - it forces you to distill what you know into an asset that can drive growth for your business for years to come.
The key here? Find the white space in the market. Don't just write another generic book in your space. Find the angle that nobody else is covering - the gap that your unique expertise fills.
For me, that was the bridge between video content & actual client conversion. That's the white space.
The 3 Launch Strategies That Got Us 114 Reviews & #1 Bestseller
Most people never reach 100 reviews on their book - ever. We launched with 114 on Day 1.
Here's exactly how we did it:
Strategy #1: Build a Waitlist & Launch Team
The first thing we did was build a dedicated waitlist of people who were the most interested & excited about the book.
We promoted the waitlist everywhere - our email list, social media, YouTube videos, podcast appearances & even live events I was speaking at.
At one event here in Austin with around 800 people, I told the audience about the book & directed them to sign up for the waitlist.
We warmed those people up over time - teased them with what was coming - and when the book was ready to launch, we said: "All right, this is the moment we've been waiting for. You are an exclusive group."
By launch time, we had around 800-900 people on that waitlist who were primed & ready to go.
The key here is we gave them exclusive bonuses for being part of the launch team & asked for honest reviews. This created a group of advocates who were genuinely excited to support the launch.
Strategy #2: Roll Up Your Sleeves & Work Your Network
This is where I want to share something that might surprise you.
There's a dichotomy that I think people don't really understand - there are times to step back as a CEO & think big picture, and there are times to roll up your sleeves & put your finger on the scale to make something have the best possible outcome.
For this launch, I went through literally every text thread with every person I had texted in the last year. I reached out to about 80% of them - anyone who was relevant - with a personal message.
The message was simple & genuine: "Hey, I've got this book coming out. There's no pressure at all, but I would truly appreciate if you're able to grab a copy - even the 99 cent ebook - and leave an honest review. It would truly mean a lot to me. And by the way, is there anything I can do to support you?"
Now here's the part that blew my mind...
I expected it to feel like I was "asking for something." Instead, it was an absolute outpouring of excitement & support.
People were thanking me for including them. They were excited to be part of it.
And the relationships I had with those people actually got stronger because of the outreach. As Chandler Bolt put it - it was a deposit, not a withdrawal.
That completely changed my perspective on asking your network for support. When you lead with value consistently, the first time you have a big ask, people are genuinely excited to support you.
This goes back to one of my favorite books - How to Win Friends & Influence People - always lead with value first. When you do that, when you genuinely care about providing value to your network, the support comes back tenfold.
Strategy #3: Host a Launch Party
The third strategy was hosting an in-person launch party.
We set up a fireside chat, a book signing & gave out physical copies of the book. But here's the smart move - while giving people a free physical copy, we also asked them to grab the 99 cent ebook on Amazon to help with our numbers.
We also had people write down what their review would be right there at the event - and then leave that review on Amazon.
And that night, at the launch party, we hit #1 Bestseller - which was an incredible moment to share with everyone who was there.

Now let's talk about the part that every entrepreneur cares about - what did the book actually do for the business?
In the first 30 days, we were able to track over $30,000 in direct client revenue from the book - and that number is only going to keep growing.
Here's what we saw happening:
First - people who actually read the book came to us already warmed up & more excited to work with us. They had gone through the frameworks, understood the strategies & were ready to take action. That made the sales conversation so much easier.
Second - the act of publishing a book created a credibility boost that raised hands across our entire audience. Even people who hadn't read the whole book yet saw that we published it & thought: "Wait, they literally wrote the book on this - let me have a conversation with their team."
Third - and this is the part that's hard to track but might be the BIGGEST impact - the book became an additional touchpoint in our omnipresent marketing. You know I talk a lot about being in multiple places & the power of omnipresent retargeting.
Well, the book is now another piece of that puzzle. Even in deals where it wasn't the primary factor, it was an additional factor that helped push things over the line.
And here's the thing - this is only going to compound over time. The speaking gigs that come from being a published author. The credibility in sales conversations. The ripple effects across every part of the business.
That's the real power of a book - it's not just a one-time launch. If you integrate it throughout your business (and don't just push it out & move on), it keeps working for you.
The 20 Million View Impact Story
I want to share one more story because this is honestly one of the coolest things that's happened since the book came out.
I was catching up with a friend from college who was launching an e-commerce business. I shared the book with her & she started diving in.
She started posting videos on YouTube, TikTok & Instagram - and one of her Instagram videos ended up getting over 20 MILLION views.
Now, I'm not looking to take any credit for that - but the fact that the book inspired her to start creating content in the first place is incredibly rewarding.
And here's the best part - she applied the principles from the book perfectly. She has a pinned conversion video that follows our framework (Hook, Story, Educate, Summary, Call to Action) to a T. And then she has these viral videos that drive massive awareness.
That's exactly what we talk about in the book - there's viral videos and there's conversion videos. The magic happens when you have BOTH working together.
She was able to get hundreds of pre-orders on her product from that strategy - which is amazing.
This is what I call the Ripple Effect - when you put your knowledge out into the world, you never know whose life it's going to change.
